There is some weird combinations between power plans and the power sliders that change idle behaviour.īoost in autonomous mode is always at the same target (50% load) but depending on plan/slider, it can sit at ~3GHz idle at max voltage, or ~3GHz idle at ~800-850mV, or basically sit at baseclock. I can only surmise that for whatever reason, running the default balanced power plan was causing my CPU to boost even while idling, but now I am wondering why this works? It's not like changing to power saver will noticeably affect overall performance right? Is this the only way to stop my CPU from boosting while idling?ĮDIT: My cpu boosts on idle, but stops boosting and only runs at what it needs to during games. Ryzen master actually shows some cores sleeping now, which has NEVER been the case. Utilization also dropped from 25% avg to 11%. However, after switching to power saver mode in Windows' power settings, my readings literally dropped to 31C on idle, 0.93 V, and 1.5 GHz. I first removed all RGB software, and unfortunately it did not solve the issue. In addition to this, my idle voltage was a constant 1.44 V, which seemed too high for me. For the longest time, I had idle temps at 61- 68C, and it was very evident that my CPU was boosting to high clock speeds during idle (task manager reported a consistent 4.5 GHz, Ryzen master was reporting 3.6-3.8 with all cores active). Hi, I currently have a R7 5800x and am running a dark rock pro4 air cooler.
